Immortals are humans who are not only immune to old age, they also cannot be slain, whether by disease, accident, or murderous will.
The immortal community constitutes roughly one percent of the world’s population. By 2030, there are roughly 8,500,000,000 humans on Earth. 1% of that is 85,000,000. 0.8% of humans are the true immortals at 68,000,000. 0.05% of humans are half-bloods at 4,250,000. 0.05% of humans are Wise Ones at 4,250,000. The remaining 8,500,000 or 0.1% are Sentinels (people not visible to Mortals except as natural phenomena unless they choose to show themselves).
The practice of immortals adopting the role of superheroes began in the mid-twentieth century with the rising popularity of comic book superheroes like Superman, Wonder Woman, and others.
When an immortal has served their purpose, their time in the physical world is done, so they transcend, transforming into a mass of energy that enters a pocket dimension inside a diamond and lives in bliss for all eternity, if they are righteous and do not abuse their powers, like going to Heaven. Those who are unrighteous will not be allowed to enter the pocket dimension. They will be stripped of their powers and forced to gradually fade like the fate of Sauron and Saruman, which can take centuries, like going to Hell. Those residing in the pocket dimension can communicate with the physical world but only in the dreams of the living and only with immortals. Travel into the pocket dimension is only possible for those who are granted entry at the end of their physical lives, and it was once possible for them to travel back to the physical world in a yearly festival in the elder days, but now it is no longer possible and so communication between the realms can only happen in dreams.
